StoRIES Infrastructures: CIC energiGUNE Thermal Loops

Thermal Loops of CIC energiGUNE is a dedicated lab space of 150 m2 comprises three hydraulic testing loops to determine the behavior of thermal ES systems under different heat transfer fluids (air, oil or steam), heating/cooling rates, high temperatures (up to 800°C) and/or heating/cooling thermal cycles in a controlled laboratory environment at a relevant scale (up to 3 m3).

State of the art: The availability of a complete set of testing and characterization infrastructure, as Thermal Loops, is of paramount importance to head for a world-leading research in the field of thermal ES.

Services currently offered by the infrastructure: Determining the behavior of components and thermal ES systems under different heat transfer fluids, heating/cooling rates, high temperatures and/or thermal cycles in a controlled laboratory environment at a relevant scale. Important operation parameters such as ES density, thermal charge/discharge power, efficiency, structural and mechanical resilience as well as their evolution under numerous thermal charging and discharging cycles at almost real operating conditions may be measured and studied.
