Infrastructure for Hybrid ES and Electric Grid Integration (HESINT) of Centro de Investigaciones Energéticas, Medioambientales y Tecnológicas (CIEMAT) comprises two complementary facilities for characterization, validation and integration into electric grids of hybrid ES technologies, covering TRL (4-7). On the one hand, a multifunctional test bench to connect until three different technologies of ES together. On the other hand, an experimental microgrid based on a 4.2km, 15 kV electric ring with pumped-hydro, batteries, supercapacitors and flywheel combined with a total installed generation power of 230 kW, completely instrumented and fully controllable to validate control strategies and grid codes compliance.
Services currently offered by the infrastructure:
- Characterization, modelling and validation of ES technologies (batteries, supercapacitors, flywheels and hydrogen based systems) in operational environment;
- Dimensioning, selection of ES solution and adjustment of operation parameters and control strategies of ES systems to fulfil the grid codes and
- Analysis of degradation, thermal behaviour and maintenance requirements of ES technologies when operating in operational environment with renewable energies.
